This article shows you how to pause your business’s Vav card so every purchase is declined, and how to turn it back on.

Before you start

  • You need a card that is not closed. You can freeze and unfreeze as often as you like — it is fully reversible.

Steps

To freeze

  1. Open Cards and go to the card.
  2. Tap Freeze.
  3. You will see “Card ····1234 frozen — every purchase will be declined” and the card badge changes to Frozen.

To unfreeze

  1. Go to the same card.
  2. Tap Unfreeze.
  3. You will see “Card ····1234 unfrozen — purchases work again” and the badge changes back to Active.

What happens next

  • Freezing takes effect immediately. Any purchase tried while the card is frozen is declined.
  • Your card balance, details and settings are untouched. Nothing is lost by freezing.
  • Top-ups are paused too — only active cards can be topped up.

Fees and limits for this action

  • Free, and you can do it as many times as you need.

Troubleshooting

  • “Could not update the card”. A temporary problem. Wait a moment and tap Freeze or Unfreeze again.
  • A payment went through after I froze the card. A merchant may complete a payment they authorized before the freeze. New purchases are declined.
  • I can’t find the Freeze button. Closed cards have no buttons. If your card shows Closed, it cannot be used again — issue a new card if you need one.

FAQs

When should I freeze my card? Any time you want a pause: you’ve seen a charge you don’t recognize, you’ve typed your card details somewhere you’re not sure about, or the business simply won’t use the card for a while. If you think the card details may have been stolen, freeze the card straight away and contact support.

Does freezing stop subscriptions? Yes — subscription charges are declined while the card is frozen. The subscription itself is not cancelled; the merchant may retry later or suspend your service.

Is freezing the same as closing? No. Freezing is temporary and reversible. Closing is permanent.
