Set a daily spending limit
Learn how to cap how much your business's Vav card can spend in a day, and how to change or remove the cap.
This article shows you how to cap how much your business’s Vav card can spend in a day, and how to change or remove the cap.
Before you start
- You need an active card. Limits are optional — without one, the card can spend its whole balance in a day.
Steps
- Open Cards and go to the card.
- Tap Limits.
- In the Daily limit window, enter the amount in dollars, for example 50.00.
- On the web, tap Set limit (or Update if a limit already exists). On the app, tap Set (or Update).
- To remove an existing limit, tap Remove.
What happens next
- The limit applies right away. As the window says: “Purchases decline once the card has spent your limit in a day.”
- The Spent today bar on the card shows how much of today’s limit is used, for example “$12.50 of $50.00”. Without a limit it shows “No daily limit”.
- The daily counter resets at midnight in the GMT+8 time zone — not your local midnight. Depending on where your business is based, the reset can happen during your working day.
Fees and limits for this action
- Free. You choose the amount; there is no minimum or maximum for the limit itself.
Troubleshooting
- “Daily limit must be a valid amount like 50.00.” Enter numbers and a decimal point only.
- A purchase was declined but “Spent today” looks under the limit. The decline happens when a purchase would take the day’s spending past the limit. A large purchase can be declined even with room left. Raise the limit or wait for the reset.
- The limit reset at a strange time. The reset is at 00:00 GMT+8. For example, that is 21:00 in Pakistan and 20:00 in the UAE.
FAQs
What counts toward the daily limit? Purchases made with the card. Top-ups and refunds do not count.
Can I set weekly or monthly limits? No, only a daily limit.
Does the limit stop a stolen card? It caps the damage for a day, but if you think the card is compromised, freeze it. See Freeze and unfreeze your card.
Does each card have its own limit? Yes. Set a limit per card from that card’s Limits button.
