Accepted documents

This article lists the identity documents Vav accepts for the identity check when you set up your business’s Vav account, and how to photograph them so they pass review the first time.

These are the identity documents of the person verifying. Checking the business itself (KYB) uses the business’s own details and registration documents.

Before you start

• Your document must be valid (not expired).
• You need the physical document with you — photos of photocopies or screens are declined.

Documents you can use

If you verify with the in-app document check, the available document types for your country are shown on screen.

Photo requirements

1. Use the original document, not a copy.
2. Make sure all four corners are visible.
3. Take the photo in good light, with no glare over the text or photo.
4. Photos must be at least 200 × 200 pixels — normal phone camera quality is more than enough.
5. For the selfie: take it in the moment, facing the camera, in good lighting. You cannot upload a saved selfie.

What happens next

After you submit your photos, the review usually takes under a minute. If a photo cannot be read, the check is declined with a reason and you can retake it — see My verification was declined.

Fees and limits for this action

• There is no fee for verification.

Troubleshooting

• “That photo is too small for verification — retake it at a higher quality” — retake the photo with your camera at normal quality. Do not crop it heavily.
• Photo keeps getting declined — clean the camera lens, move to brighter light, and lay the document flat on a dark surface so the edges are clear.
• My document type is not listed — if none of the listed documents match what you have, contact support before trying another document.

FAQs

My passport does not need a back photo — why does my ID card? ID cards, licenses and residency permits carry information on both sides, so both sides are checked. A passport has everything on one page.

Can I use an expired document? No. The document must be valid. The form asks for the issue and expiry dates, and expired documents are declined.

Can I verify with a document from any country? Vav accepts the document types listed above.

Do you keep the document photos? Documents from the in-app check stay with our verification partner. If you used the form, your photos are stored encrypted. See app.vav.money/privacy.
